Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. Isaiah 2:3a
God of all peoples, whose servant John came baptising and calling for repentance, help us to hear his voice of judgement, that we may also rejoice in his word of promise, and be found pure and blameless in that glorious Day when Christ comes to rule the earth as Prince of Peace, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever Amen

Today we begin our journey through Advent, a time of preparing for the coming of Christ – both in remembering his incarnation as a baby over 2000 years ago, and in anticipating his coming again as promised. The secular world is also busy preparing, but are very involved in parties, gifts, and Santa. Something we have in common is recognising that Christmas is a season for giving and appeals abound in the weeks leading up to 25th December. In the church, we are perhaps a little more intentional in how we respond to the various appeals. This year we are supporting the Christmas Bowl Appeal and you will hear about that in our services at all three centres. There are several ways for you to contribute: put some cash in one of the marked envelopes (or your own) and put it in the dedicated ‘Bowl’, make a
donation over the phone by calling 1800 025 101 or you can give online on our own unique donation page at mycb.link/47536 For those of you who are very internet savvy, you can capture the QR code on the worship screen at the end of each service and make a donation that way.
If you would particularly like to support an Anglican Mission, you are welcome to contribute to the ABM Advent and Christmas Appeal. We will be supporting ABM as a Parish during Lent and Easter, but you can give at any time. You can put cash in an envelope clearly marked ABM Christmas Appeal and include it in the general offertory or donate online at http://www.abmission.com/Christmas2022.
Making a gift to either (or both) of these missions is a way to show our appreciation for the greatest gift of all, the birth of whom we celebrate in just four short weeks.
I think we are all familiar with Advent Calendars\ with little doors that you open every day in the weeks before Christmas. Each door reveals cute little pictures, or even a chocolate. The Parish Advent Calendar has no doors, just some suggestions of one thing you can do each day during Advent – one thing designed to help you worship, go, learn, pray, bless, turn or rest with God during this busy time. Please collect your copy from the Welcome Table.
Our study this year is based on the Gospel reading for the coming Sunday. We will meet for four weeks on Thursdays at 1:30pm on 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd December in the Ministry Centre at Maclean Please indicate your intention to attend on the sign-up sheets near church entry
